How to get to Tayrona Park from Santa Marta, step by step

April 5, 2026 · 6 min read · Hotel Jasayma Parque Tayrona

Tayrona Park is about 35 km east of Santa Marta. Its main entrance is El Zaino, on the Santa Marta–Riohacha road (Troncal del Caribe). These are the two most common ways to get there.

Option 1: bus from Santa Marta (cheapest)

  1. Take a bus at the Santa Marta market (Calle 11 & Carrera 11) heading to Palomino, Riohacha or Maicao.
  2. Ask the driver to drop you at "la entrada del Tayrona" or "El Zaino".
  3. Pay your entrance at the ticket office (bring cash and ID).
  4. Take the internal shuttle to Cañaveral (about COP 6,000 per person).

Time: 60 to 90 minutes. Approx. price: COP 11,000–12,000 per person.

Option 2: private transfer from the airport or the city

If you fly into Simón Bolívar airport or travel with luggage, a door-to-door private transfer is easiest. At Jasayma we arrange it for our guests: COP 220,000 per trip, air-conditioned vehicle with luggage space. Send us your arrival time.

Driving

Take the Troncal del Caribe to El Zaino. Parking costs COP 21,000 per car (2026). If you stay at Jasayma, we pick you up there at no extra cost.

Our tip

If you stay at Jasayma you need no more transport: we are inside the park, in the Cañaveral Sector, close to the beaches. Check the 2026 entrance fees and closure dates first.
